Literacy is so vitally important in today's world and Eratap village has begun working on improving literacy for Mamas in the village. The women wanted a better understanding of English so they could communicate better with tourists and be able to sell goods to them. The project was the idea of Peace Corps Volunteer Dawna Horton who has been living in Eratap since 2014. The program involves training for instructors, a 12 week training session for the Mamas, and materials. The program was kickstarted by a $5000 US dollar grant from the US Embassy. This program has great potential and Melanesian Women Today will be looking forward to replicating it in other villages throughout Vanuatu.
