Journey to the Solomon Islands with Odyssey 7/8 Service Learning Project
In this video, a parent from Odyssey and her daughter embark on a journey to the Solomon Islands as part of the Odyssey 7/8 Service Learning Project. They visit the girls in our scholarship program, embracing a deep sense of community through listening to their stories and sharing in the hope that comes from collective support. This collaborative effort reflects the power of partnerships—connecting hearts and minds to uplift and empower these young women.
Their journey includes visits to two high schools: a visit to Auki Community High School, which Odyssey and MWT have been working with for several years, and the LAULANA School in Malaita Province becoming a new focus for support this year. We will sponsor five girls and provide resources, especially reading books, for a library and science lab. This experience highlights the importance of community—rooted in listening, sharing stories, and working together to nurture these young women on their journey toward success. Through this meaningful experience, parents and students gain insights from dedicated volunteers like Ruth Maetala, Loate, Constance Bird, our board member from the Solomon Islands, and the graduates who are now pursuing higher education. Together, we create a future where every girl has the opportunity to thrive, grounded in the values of community and shared knowledge.
